Why GREEN ICF Walls prefers to use only the post-and-beam screen-grid icf blocks
more user-friendly for the builder than two-panel icf wall building systems
more rebar than two-panel systems and more steel creates stronger walls
more economical than two-panel systems as post-and-beam screen-grid walls
Use 25% - 30% less concrete than two-panel systems of the same wall thickness
Screen-grid icf blocks interrupt the cracking of concrete with EPS barriers every 6" or 8".
All concrete cracks. And all concrete cracks tend to "telegraph" through the wall or floor along a 45 degree angle until the crack is interrupted by a barrier or until the crack "telegraphs" to the end of the concrete floor or wall. The post-and-beam screen-grid icf blocks interrupt the "telegraphing" of concrete cracks and completely encase concrete cracks in 6" dia. or 8" dia. EPS cylinder forms.
The "radius of influence" of steel reinforcement extends to all of the concrete in screen-grid icf blocks. In solid-poured concrete walls, much of the concrete is not within the "radius of influence" of the steel reinforcement (rebar). Again, steel gives the concrete strength and concrete gives the walls rigidity.
More EPS insulating material is used in the "solid barriers" of post-and-beam screen-grid icf walls than is used in two-panel systems.
